Description
Summary:Pacific region and Japan. The description of Leucascus lobatus sp. nov. is given, based on material from Greenland. The species bears strongest resemblance to L. neocaledonicus Borojevic & Klautau, 2000, from New Caledonia, and L. soyo (Hozawa, 1933), from Japan. Leucascus lobatus sp. nov. differs from L. neocaledonicus by having much bigger spicules, and from L. soyo by having an atrial skeleton composed of triactines and tetractines of the same types as those of the choanosome, and not of special atrial tri- and tetractines as in L. soyo. The present reports of Leucascus lobatus sp. nov. are the first records of the genus from the Atlantic Ocean.
