Climatologia e variabilidade ambiental marinha na região do Banco dos Abrolhos determinada por satélites: resultados preliminares do projeto Pro-Abrolhos

Satellite-derived sea surface temperature (SST), chlorophyll concentration (CC), surface winds (SWind) and sea surface high (SSH) data are used here to characterize the climatology and space-time variability of the Abrolhos Bank coral reef vicinity in the South Atlantic Ocean. Results show that the...

Description
Summary:Satellite-derived sea surface temperature (SST), chlorophyll concentration (CC), surface winds (SWind) and sea surface high (SSH) data are used here to characterize the climatology and space-time variability of the Abrolhos Bank coral reef vicinity in the South Atlantic Ocean. Results show that the SST, CC, SWind and SSH fields are related to procesess occurring at both large and regional scales. The main mode of variability found for all the variables is the annual cycle as expected for the region. El Niño and La Niña events are found to impose noticeable changes in the SST and SSH fields of the study region.
