First record of a humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) in the Gulf of Trieste (northern Adriatic Sea)

A humpback whale, (Megaptera novaeangliae) was recorded in Slovenian territorial waters (Gulf of Trieste, northern Adriatic Sea) in February 2009. The only species of cetaceans regularly present in these waters is the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus, Genov et al., 2008).
