Summary:Summary.- In 1979-1980,~the main growth of oysters Crassostrea gigas, in the basin of Marennes-oléron occured in June and July. The available amount of food and the energetic requirements for the repro duction are important factors determining growth. Tissue weight decreased after spawning until the end of the winter, and this decrease might be related to the high quantities of inorganic particles, in the seston, at that period of the year.
