Summary: | wedge of andesitic volcaniclastic sediments inter-preted to have been deposited in an early Paleozoic arc-trench gap. The sediments have been meta' morphosed to prehnite-pumpellyite facies, but pum-pellyite is not common. A characteristic mineral assemblage is albite-f calcite + quartz f prehnite * chlorite 4 epidote. Field relations and mineral assemblages are interpreted as intlicating metamor-phism at temperatures on the order of 300*400'C and load pressures less than 1 kb. The high temper' atures were produced by injection of numerous thick dykes and sills which were feeders to the over-lying Lawrence Head pillow lavas. |
