Description
Summary:New Jersey Highlands Regional Study, a study of natural resource conditions and land use change in the Highlands region of New York and New Jersey (Figure 3-1). The study area is characterized by a series of northeast to southwest tending ridges and valleys. The forests and farmlands of this landscape form greenbelt adjacent to the urban areas along the northeast Atlantic coast. It is an environmentally unique and economically important area that provides clean drinking water to the New Jersey and New York metropolitan areas, critical wildlife habitat for resident and migrant species, and recreational resources for millions of people.
