Description
Summary:With increased land development on aboriginal lands in Canada, there is a need for a web-enabled spatial information system to allow improved access and analysis of land management information. In this paper, a web-based database for sharing information on aboriginal territories has been developed and updated. It allows First Nations, interested individuals, and businesses to interactively access, browse, analyze and share information pertaining to the land use activities in Aboriginal communities. This paper presents the procedures for the development of a prototype of a web-based Information system for aboriginal land management. In this user-friendly prototype system, ArcIMS is used as the spatial server. Due to the limitation of the existing commercial software, such as ArcIMS, Web GIS customization of Internet mapping applications has also been discussed. Implementation of basic spatial queries and advanced spatial queries through ArcXML coding has been presented as well.
