Description
Summary:A new harpirhynchid mite Harpyrhynchoides alaudinus sp. n. (Acari: Harpirhynchidae) is de-scribed ex Alauda arvensis (Passeriformes: Alaudi-dae) from Russia. РЕЗЮМЕ Описан новый вид харпиринхидных кле-щей Harpyrhynchoides alaudinus sp. n. (Acari: Harpirhynchidae) с А/auda arvensis (Passeriformes: Alaudidae) из России. The mites of the family Harpirhynchidae (Acari: Cheyletoidea) are the permanent parasites located on/in the skin of birds. To date, this family includes more than 50 species grouped into 14 genera and 3 subfamilies [Bochkov et al., 2000]. The genus Harpyrhynchoides Fain, 1972 seems to be archaic and is the most species-rich in the family. It includes 31 species associated with birds of 12 orders [Fain, 1994; Fain et al., 1999; Bochkov et al., 2000]. The present paper gives the description of one new harpirhynchid mite, Harpyrhynchoides alaudinus sp. n., collected from the skin of Alauda arvensis (Passeriformes: Alaudidae) in Russia. The nomenclature of idiosomal chaetotaxy and terminology follows that of A. Fain et al. [1999]. All measurements are given in microme-ters (urn). Holotype and paratypes are deposited in the collections of the Zoological Institute of the
