Description
Summary:The physical and chemical properties of freshwater lakes, ponds, and melt pools of coastal ice-free areas of Enderby Land, Antarctica, and their seasonal dynamics, are discussed. The waters are significantly less mineralized than has been reported in other ice-free areas of the antarctic. Tentative explanations for the divergencies are the location of the area with respect to storm tracks and the true melt-water nature of the lakes. Primary production was variable and dependent on many factors, including seasonal temperature cycles in the water bodies.
