Summary:Since the initiation of the of the Maritimes Shorebird Surveys in 1974 (see Howe et al. 1989), the populations of some species of North American migratory shorebirds have been in decline (Morrison et al. 1994). Over the past three decades, six species of migrant shorebirds, including the Semipalmated Sandpiper, have been undergoing significant population declines. The other five species are: Red Knot
