Description
Summary:1521989; deMenocal et al., 1991); recently the susceptibility measure-ments were used as a rapid technique to estimate carbonate content, which in turn reflects paleoclimatic change (Leg 154 Scientific Party, 1995). Several useful applications, such as reconstructing complete sequences and detecting repeated sequences, have also been intro-duced by Robinson (1990). However, the application of whole-core magnetic susceptibility has yet to be fully exploited. The onboard measurement interval is frequently too rough to detect significant sig-nals as a result of the limited time available for measurements. More seriously, the mechanism controlling susceptibility variation is not fully understood, and so it is difficult to give a valid interpretation of the susceptibility data. Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Leg 152 was designed to study the volcanic rifted margin off southeastern Greenland and the pale-oceanographic events in the Irminger Basin (Larsen, Saunders, Clift
