Description
Summary:Innovation of nature tourism experiences are discussed by merging insights from the open innovation paradigm, tourism-innovation and the practice based perspective. It is argued that understanding innovation in this sector of tourism requires the integration of multiple elements including people, nature, wildlife, technologies and networks across organizations. The paper attempts to develop a proposal of a conceptual model that can be applied to tourism innovation research. The model will be discussed and illustrated with examples from whale watching in Iceland. The paper concludes that the recognition of the specific characteristics of tourism-innovation and the practice turn in organizational studies could develop the ‘open service innovation model ’ further in the direction of a model for experience-innovation. Key words: open innovation, practice based perspective, tourism experience, nature based tourism Paper presented at the conference for Organizational Learning
