Summary:The Okhotsk Sea and the Barents Sea are known to be ice covered during a part of the year and ice free in the rest of the year. The conditions surrounding both seas constitute their environment and contribute to the creation and maintenance of this particular state, which are investigated in geographic terms in this article. The common features of the two seas as well as the contrasting ones are elucidated. The results serves the investigation of a seasonally ice covered sea generally.
