| Summary: | First, a very big thank you to Prof. Peter Bühlmann for supervising this thesis. He followed my work with great interest and was always there for help, advice, motivation and support of all kind while giving me the freedom to try my own steps in the world of statistical research. Not only in the office, but also while having black forest cake at Oberwolfach or while drinking a Singapore Sling at 1 a.m. at the waterside of Singapore river, I could always count on his support and interest. I would also like to thank him for encouraging me to travel. Be it an arctic mission to Harvard, a late summer stay in Oberwolfach or the attendance of many international conferences, I had the chance to meet various researchers around the world and learned a lot, also about myself. I also thank Prof. Sara van de Geer for acting as co-examiner, for the nice and fruitful collaborations and for her support. Further thanks go to my friends and colleagues at the Seminar für Statistik for the very nice working atmosphere and for always providing an expert for the most exotic problems. We also had a lot of fun in our leisure time: Be it kayaking the Everglades with alligators, diving with sharks (or sea snakes), riding the world’s fastest and highest roller coaster, living in a very dangerous district of Philadelphia (which we missed by a good margin.), enjoying a chocolate fountain high-above Manhattan, relaxing on a nice bed at an altitude of 30’000 feet or simply climbing on a volcano during the night: We did it all! Finally, I would like to thank my family (including a little big dog named “chica”), my friends and especially Jeannine for the unconditional support and for the patience during all the weeks when I was not around.
