Description
Summary:The Antarctic plateau is a new frontier for astronomy, offering superior observing conditions to those of any other groundbased site across most of the electromagnetic spectrum. The established inland Antarctic stations of Amundsen-Scott and Vostok are now being joined by new stations at Dome A, Dome C and Dome F. Plans to deploy large telescopes are already well advanced, and within a decade some of astronomy’s most capable facilities could be located on the frozen continent. 1. WHY ANTARCTICA? Astronomers have always sought the best locations for their telescopes. In early
