MUONS WITH Eth ≥ 1 GeV AND MASS COMPOSITION IN THE ENERGY RANGE 10 18 − 10 20 eV OBSERVED BY YAKUTSK EAS ARRAY

In this work the dependence of the ratio muon flux density to charged particle flux density at distances of 300, 600 m from the shower axis ρµ(300)/ρµ(300) and ρµ(600)/ρs(600) has been obtained. Separately the dependence ρµ(1000) on the energy in showers with E0 ≥ 10 18 eV is analysided. The compari...

Description
Summary:In this work the dependence of the ratio muon flux density to charged particle flux density at distances of 300, 600 m from the shower axis ρµ(300)/ρµ(300) and ρµ(600)/ρs(600) has been obtained. Separately the dependence ρµ(1000) on the energy in showers with E0 ≥ 10 18 eV is analysided. The comparison of experimental data with calculations by the QGSJET model in the case of primary proton, iron nuclei and gamma – ray is given. The conclusion that showers with E0 ≥ 3 · 10 18 eV can be formed by light nucleus with the pronounced fraction of protons and helium nucleus is made. It is not excluded that a small part of showers with E0 ≥ 10 19 eV can be initiated by primary gamma – rays.
