Summary:This museum management plan for the museum and archival collections at Oregon Caves National Monument (ORCA) identifies the key collection management issues facing the park, and presents a series of recommendations to address those issues. This plan was developed by a team of experienced museum and archival collections management professionals working in cooperation with the park management team and staff. Although Oregon Caves National Monument has an agreement with Crater Lake National Park (CRLA) for the CRLA curator to manage the ORCA collections, concerns about day-to-day management exist. These could be corrected by well-worked Role and Function Statements, development of internal protocols for collections development, and an updated Scope of Collection Statement. The current collection seems rather small for an over 100-year-old park which has a very active research and collecting program.
