Summary:This course applies economics to analyze health behaviors, health policy, and health systems. In particular, we will study the demand and supply of health, information and insurance markets, social insurance, the health economics of bads, and economic epidemiology (e.g., SARS and avian flu). CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE Students are expected to attend class regularly and on time, and to participate actively in class discussions. Other common-sense classroom etiquette, such as turning off mobile phones and pagers during class time, is expected. PREREQUISITES Microeconomics (ECON 513) and Econometrics (ECON 233) 1 PROJECT Pick a topic in Health Economics that interests you. You will have to present your main findings in a 20-minute presentation in class on either May 5 or 12, 2004. The final written report (20 pages minimum) is due before 5pm, May 19, 2004. The score of the term project depends mainly on the presentation and the final report. You will receive extra credit if you make insightful comments on other term projects during the presentation.
