Summary: | influence on terrestrial climate, (c) planetary and atmospheric studies, and (d) the origin of life and exobiology. The Working Group seeks to promote the development of the space sciences in Africa by initiating and coordinating various capacitybuilding programmes throughout the region. These programmes fall into a broad spectrum ranging from the promotion of basic scientific literacy in the space sciences to the support of international research projects. The Working Group also promotes international cooperation among African space scientists and acts as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information through its publications, outreach programmes, workshops, and scientific meetings. The Working Group receives financial support from foundations and institutes committed to its objectives. One of its principal forms of support, however, is the time contributed freely by individual scientists. WGSSA Officers for the period 2004–2006 |
