Summary:[ABSTRACT] This thesis argues that Hokkaido Ainu used nature for making of animal skins for clothes. There are a word "to tan" and a tool with which they tanned in Sakhalin Ainu, but the word and the tool don't exist in Hokkaido Ainu, neither. Then, what kind of work was performed to use of animal skin as clothes? Hokkaido Ainu said "it was rubbed with hands", "it was pickled in a receptacle for manure"and "It was pickled in a marsh". Hokkaido Ainu used these natural devised to make animal skins soft annd made clothes, this thesis concludes.
