Description
Summary:Heinrich Stadial 1 (HS 1) and the preceding pre-HS 1 episode are some of the latest extreme events of the last glacial period and correspond to the preliminary phase of the dramatic retreat of the Northern Hemisphere ice sheet that leads to the last glacial–interglacial transition. HS 1 is considered the marine equivalent of the Oldest Dryas in Europe. Changes in northern hemisphere glacial dynamics, coupled with increased meltwater discharges likely favoured by warmer summer temperatures, led to substantial reorganisations of coupled ocean and atmospheric circulation patterns around the world.
