Description
Summary:To quantify the arrival of glass-eels (Anguilla anguilla) in continental waters is an important challenge because of the apparent decrease in the continental population. However, this quantification requires a good knowledge of estuarine migration. Since the phenomenon is very complex and since it is impossible to reproduce in a laboratory all the natural conditions of an estuary, the modelling approach seems to be an interesting way to complement field work. Based on a large database, the " individual-centered " model allows the understanding of complex phenomena as a whole by integrating other mechanisms that govern the system. Our simulation program of glass-eel migration in estuaries relies on the coupling between spatial-temporal sampling of characteristics of estuarine environments and the migration behavior of an individual during migration. The model adjustment is done by comparing the abundance indexes provided by daily statements of professional fishermen. The application of this model has given way to a reflexion on the migration itself and to the demonstration of how temperature affected transit time in estuarine environments.
