Description
Summary:With the rise of China as an existential security threat to the United States and its Allies, the United States wants to shift its strategic focus to the Indo-Pacific region. A more belligerent Russia complicates this shift while requiring the US military to deploy deterrent forces to Europe. The US response to Russian aggression in Ukraine, Georgia, and Syria drives Russia and China towards a security partnership. This research examines potential avenues there the United States and NATO could cooperate with Russia to counter the emerging threat of China. The research hypothesizes that the United States could cooperate with Russia in Central Asian security, Arctic security, and implementation of a new Intermediate Nuclear Forces treaty including China to improve US-Russian relations while countering Chinese objectives in these realms.
