Summary:Exercise Acid Test III was an Alaskan Command (ALCOM) directed exercise in support of Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) Memorandum SM 270-70, 1 April 1970. ALCOM's Exercise Directive, Acid Test III, designated the Commanding General, United States Army, Alaska (USARAL), as exercise director. The exercise was conducted in compliance with USARAL Circular 350-33, Acid Test III. Exercise Punch Card XII (a JCS coordinated exercise of tactical fighter, tactical reconnaissance and air refueling force deployment of United States Air Force STRIKE (USAFSTRIKE) units to Alaska), was conducted in conjunction with Acid Test III. The concept of the exercise was to integrate the operations of assigned ALCOM forces, attached Canadian forces, United States STRIKE Command (USSTRICOM) air augmentation forces and Military Airlift Command (MAC) air and ground support forces. The exercise was conducted on the Fort Greely Military Reservation during the period 30 November through 14 December 1970.
