Description
Summary:Jeffrey Black, the 2014 Humboldt State University Scholar of the Year, lectures at Humboldt State on Nov. 10, 2014. In this lecture, Black will present highlights from his 100+ investigations of 'wild-life' from the Amazon to the Arctic, including findings from long-term studies of river otters, Steller's Jays, and our wild goose populations. Professor Black made news for his study of river otter populations in which he enlisted students, hikers, fishermen and other community members to determine the health of the animals locally. He's employed the same inclusive strategy to study eight other species. Black's study of the Steller's jays and their social relationships has been well documented. Black, who joined the Humboldt State faculty in 1998, has published more than 100 papers and books.
