Description
Summary:Cimanuk Estuary Area (CEA), which located in Indramayu District at West Java Province, is one the areas is registered as Important Bird Area (IBA) with ID number 086 (Rombang & Rudyanto 1999, Birdlife International 2011a). Habitat changes and hunting by community around the area have threated to shorebirds sustainability. The objectives of this research are (1) to identify shorebirds species in CEA, (2) to compare shore birds diversity in CEA (3) to identify makrozoobenthos species in CEA, (4), and Explain the relationship between shorebirds with macrozoobenthos (5) to explain shore birds hunting around the CEA. Research was carried out in five locations around CEA at Indramayu District of West Java; those are Rambatan Baru Embankment, Pangkalan Embankment, Cimanuk Lama Embanment, Singakerta Farming Land and Pabean Coastal. The research was conducted from October 26th 2010 to March 26th 2011. Target species were limited to bird species from Charadriiformes order, excluding Stercorariidae and Laridae families. Bird data was collected by using transects with 1.000 m length and 60 m width in each transect. T-test was used to know the differences of bird diversity between r habitats in 95% significant level. A total recorded 2.180 individuals from 21 species, 12 genera and 4 families in 5 locations. At Rambatan Baru recorded 16 species and 4 families, in Pangkalan 15 species and 4 families, in Cimanuk Lama 8 species and 3 families, in Singakerta 8 species and 3 families and in Pabean 7 species and 2 families. Eight of bird species were protected by PP No. 7 year 1999, and 5 species were included in Near Threatened and Vulnerable categories of IUCN. Index of diversity in CEA were medium category (H’=1,92; DMg=2,60). Evenness index in all habitat types was almost evenly dispersed, because its value was approaching 1. Location which has highest similarity was Pabean and Singakerta (ISj=0,67). Dominance value of shore bird species in CEA ranged between 0,05-30,55. Shorebird species dispersion in Cimanuk Estuary was divided into two types, those are randomly dispersed (χ²<14,067) and clustered (χ²>14,067). One of randomly dispersed species was Numenius minutus (χ²=0,875), while clustered dispersed species was Actitis hypoleucos (χ²=433,80).
