Description
Summary:In 1991/92 the glacial surroundings of the Schirmacher Oasis were surveyed at three main and several smaller profiles by ground based electromagnetic reflection measurements (EMR) totalling 425 km. The ice thickness values obtained are in good agreement with Russian drilling results and reflection-seismic data. The greatest ice thicknesses (more than 1 400 m) were obtained south and east of the Schirmacher Oasis in regions where maximum surface velocities of the glacier were found by geodetic measurements. Detailed studies were made on the Anuchin Glacier (appr. 71°15'S/13°30'E) that is damming lake Untersee, the greatest lake in the interior of the Dronning Maud Land. The paper presents a preliminary scheme of subglacial topography and ice thickness for the investigated area between the edge of the Novolazarevskaya Ice Shelf and the Wohlthat Massif. lt could be useful for ice sheet dynamic modelling as well as for the reduction of geomagnetic and gravity data available for this region.
