Summary:The Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) from Germany gave a plenary presentation about the LOHAFEX ocean iron fertilization experiment (OIF) which was conducted in cooperation with the Indian National Oceanographic Institute (NIO). LOHAFEX was carried out from 7 January to 17 March 2009 in an ocean eddy at 48°S 16°W. Preliminary results indicate that most of the phytoplankton was top-down controlled by grazing zooplankton, that in turn were predated on by amphipods. In conclusion the CO2 drawdown effect of the OIF was low.
