Summary:The Arctic Council is a high-level intergovernmental forum that provides a mechanism to address the common concerns and challenges faced by the Arctic governments of Canada, Denmark (including Greenland and the Faroe Islands), Finland, Iceland, Norway, the Russian Federation, Sweden and the United States, and the people of the Arctic. The Council is a unique forum for co-operation between national governments and indigenous peoples and a regional forum for sustainable development, mandated to address all three of its main pillars: the environmental, social and economic.
