Summary:In 2015, the Arctic Council Ministers approved the “Framework Plan for Cooperation on Prevention of Oil Pollution from Petroleum and Maritime Activities in the Marine Areas of the Arctic” (Framework Plan). In the Framework Plan the Arctic States (referred to as “the Participants”) intended to strengthen cooperation between their competent national authorities in order to facilitate implementation. In addition, it was agreed to cooperate with the private sector in order to im- prove standards and best practices for the prevention of oil pollution in the Arctic marine environment.
