| Summary: | The level of awareness as well as overall readiness for addressing climate and other environmental changes and their linkages to human development has markedly increased in recent years. This has been demonstrated, among other events, by the adoption of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in March 2015, the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in September 2015, and the Paris climate agreement of December 2015. Each of these speaks to the importance of strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities and ecosystems. Building on these global agreements, numerous regional bodies, as well as national bodies around the world are adopting frameworks and strategies to adapt to climate change and build resilience. Simultaneously, while numerous local communities are struggling to cope with the very tangible impacts of a changing climate, efforts to more proactively build resilience are taking shape.
