The IHWMS was also welcomed in the 2009 Arctic Council Ministerial declaration (Tromsø): Welcome the Integrated Hazardous Waste Management Strategy in the Northern Regions of the Russian Federation, note its potential importance for the other parts of the Arctic, and support its implementation with the aim to ensure environmentally sound management, destruction and storage of hazardous waste," /./
