Description
Summary:"Due to the increased melting of sea ice in the Arctic and other factors, human activity has started to increase in the region, a trend that is certain to continue. For example, ship-borne tourism to the Arctic has already increased. As a result of such increasing activities, many Arctic States have expressed the need for greater international coordination and cooperation with respect to search and rescue (SAR) in the Arctic. The United States supports promoting safety in the Arctic Ocean and adjacent land areas through a new SAR agreement among the Arctic States, and seeks support from other Arctic Council members and the Permanent Participants for the Ministers to determine that such negotiations should take place starting next year."/./
