Summary: | "As part of their commitment to follow-up on the findings of the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP) concerning the State of the Arctic Environment, the Arctic Council Ministers implemented the Arctic Council Action Plan to Eliminate Pollution of the Arctic (ACAP). In response to the AMAP information on brominated flame retardants (BFRs), the Arctic Council Senior Arctic Officials launched an ACAP project on BFRs at their meeting in Reykjavik in April, 2003. In February 2004, BFR experts from Arctic countries held a meeting to develop a BFR project proposal and work plan for an ACAP BFR project. The resulting project proposal was endorsed at the November 2004 meeting of the Arctic Council Ministers. The ACAP BFR Project Steering Group was established in February 2005 and has held several meetings. This report presents the findings of Phase I of the ACAP BFR Project: Inventory of sources and identification of BFR alternatives and management strategies."
