Description
Summary:Following the "gill disease" of the Portuguese oyster (Crassostrea angulata LMK.) and the massive mortality rates that this species suffered in 1970 and 1971, the oyster farmers of the Marennes-Oléron basin, as those in other Portuguese oyster-producing areas, developed Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) cultivation in France by directly importing spat from Japan's main supply centres.
