Description
Summary:The author describes a new sp of squaloid shark of the gen Somniosus Lesueur, 1818 from the waters of the Bay of Biscay. The new sp S. bauchotae differs from S. microcephalus (Schneider, 1801), S. rostratus (Risso, 1826) and S. pacificus (Bigelow and Schroeder, 1944) by the shape of the 1st dorsal and of the pectorals, by the caudal peduncle with a distinct lateral ridge, by the much larger interspace between the tip of 2nd dorsal and caudal, and also the shape of dermal denticles.
