Description
Summary:This public lecture discussedthe draft Central Sydney Planning Strategy 2012-2036. The strategy revises previous planning controls and attempts to deliver on the City of Sydney’s Sustainable Sydney 2030 program. The Strategy is the product of the most detailed review of city centre planning controls since the City’s first comprehensive planning strategy in 1971. The strategy supports opportunities for additional height and density in the right locations, balanced with environmental sustainability initiatives and sets criteria for excellence in urban design. Key priorities of the plan include prioritising employment growth and increasing capacity. The lecture had the City of Sydney’s Director of City Planning, Development and Transport Graham Jahn AM explaining the new strategy to the audience. Two sustainable urban design and planning experts also gave their feedback on the plan: University of Sydney’sDr Adrienne Keane, Director of the Master of Urbanism program, with an interest in statutory land use and the environmental consequences of urban planning policy; and Dejan Simovic, Senior Design Manager at Greenland Group - a pioneer in China and global leader in real estate development for sustainable cities.
