| Summary: | During the evoluation of Turkish language, famous Turkish linguist Şemseddin Sami has written many articles, books, and prepared some dictionaries. In addition to his favour to the Turkish language, he has paid his utmost attention to the Turkish grammer. His ideas and thoughts described in his books Lisân (Language) and Usul-ı Tenkîd ve Tertîb (Method of Critisim and Arrangement) has been analyzed and examined in this thesis. The book under the name of "Nev Usûl Sarf-ı Tiirkt (New Method of Turkish Grammar) written by Şemseddin Sami has been thoroughly examined. In this study, sta tus and condition of Turkish language in that period has been shown. The following topcis are discussed in this thesis. I: Introduction, II: Life of Şemsed din Sami and his works, III: Work on grammer and dictionaries by Şemseddin Sami, IV: Transcription of Nev Usûl Sarf-ı Türkî, (New Method of Turkish Grammar) V: Analysis related to Nev Usûl Sarf-ı Türkî, VI: Dictionary based on terminology, VII: Bibliography. In the first part attention has been given to the rules and vocabulary of Turkish lan guage. Place of Şemseddin Sami's work among his companion has also been discussed. In the second part, life and works of Şemseddin Sami have been described chrono logically. In part three, his book Lisân (Language) has been analysed throroughly. This topic has been high lighted for the first time by Şemseddin Sami. In the same part of the thesis, work on Usûl-ı Tenkîd ve Tertîb (Method of critisim and arrangement) has been discussed. At the end of this part some details have been given about this work on dictionaries. Fourth part of the thesis describes transcription of Nev Usul Sarf-ı Türkî, which was originally written in old Turkish alphabet. In part five, analysis related to Nev Usul Sarf-ı Türkî has been mentioned and com parison has been made between the grammer given in that book and grammar of modern age. Part six consists of a dictionary based on terminology. In the thesis Şemseddin Sami's ideas and thoughts, have been presented in his own language. To understand the language, the meanings of old and unused words have been explained.
