Summary:A comparative study made on the amount of sea salt (dominantly NaCl) deposited on Macquarie Island due to atmospheric precipitation. It is found that the scavenging of solid salt particles alone cannot account for all the salt budget over certain areas of the Island. It is considered that sea spray droplets carried aloft by winds and scavenged by precipitation in the immediate vicinity of the shoreline is responsible for this deficit.
