Description
Summary:Progress Code: onGoing Maintenance and Update Frequency: continual Statement: Data are sourced from XBTs deployed from merchant vessels participating in the IGOSS Ship-of-Opportunity Program (SOOP). Processing and quality control information is given in the cited documentation (Bailey et al. 1994). This dataset contains temperature data from the TOGA/WOCE transect IX28 in the Southern Ocean. The transect runs between Hobart and Dumont Durville. Data have been collected since October 1992 and are ongoing. The transect is repeated mainly in summer. The data are obtained from XBTs (expendable bathythermographs) deployed via the French research vessel L'Astrolabe, and are now managed by the Joint Australian Facility for Ocean Observing Systems (JAFOOS), a collaborative venture between CSIRO Marine Research and the Bureau of Meteorology Research Centre (BMRC).
