Description
Summary:The locations of colonies were eyed in using as a guide sketches by Clive McMahon (sketches on two 1:25000 maps covering the island) and John Van den hoff (sketches on an A4 map of the ANARE station at The Isthmus) of the Australian Antarctic Division. John indicated areas where seal colonies are found. These were represented by polygon data. Clive indicated sections of coastline along which seal colonies are found. The coastline was buffered by a nominal distance of 20 metres so that this information could also be represented by polygon data. Attribute data were also provided by Clive and John. The data conforms to the Australian Antarctic Spatial Data Model which includes Data Quality Indicators. Usually mapped to a Universal Transverse Mercator projection, Zone 57. Seal colonies on Macquarie Island. This is a polygon dataset stored in the Geographical Information System (GIS). Attributes include the species name and whether breeding occurs within the area represented. The species include Southern Elephant and Fur.
