Description
Summary:This layer group describes multibeam echosounder data collected on RV Investigator voyage IN2020_V06 titled "Probing the Australian-Pacific Plate Boundary: Macquarie Ridge in 3-D". The voyage took place between October 8 and November 3, 2020, departing from Hobart (TAS) and arriving in Hobart (TAS).\n\nThe purpose of this voyage was to were to undertake multibeam sonar and sub-bottom profile data acquisition and interpretation in the Macquarie Island region to identify suitable sites for deployment of OBS's and to deploy 29 OBS's (17 AGOS and 12 CAS).\n\nThis dataset is published with the permission of CSIRO. Not to be used for navigational purposes.\n\nThe dataset contains bathymetry grids of 10m to 210m resolution of the Macquarie Island produced from the processed EM122 and EM710 bathymetry data.\nLineage: Multibeam data was logged from the EM’s in Kongsberg’s proprietary *.all format and was converted to be processed within CARIS HIPS and SIPS version 11.3.8. This was the first use of the latest and significantly upgraded version of CARIS on the ship, and a new setup and processing flow had to be developed for its effective implementation. Following the initial data conversion as above into the HIPS and SIPS format, the data was analysed for noise. No tide was applied, and the lines were merged using the vessel file appropriate for either the EM122 or EM710. The data was then gridded at the highest resolution possible (generally between 10m and 210 m) and further inspected for outliers. The final voyage grid was output at multi-resolutions between 10m - 210 m, with some higher resolution products (10 m) created in shallower water depths along the eastern flank of Macquarie Island.\n\nThe data was gridded at multiple resolutions in python Caris batch script using a Depth filter Vs Resolution guideline derived from AusSeabed Multibeam guidelines v2 and further inspected for outliers. Final raster products are available in L3 folder of this collection. Final processed data were also exported per line as GSF and ...
