Description
Summary:Progress Code: onGoing Purpose This data set is provided for informative purposes only, the intent of the measurements undertaken was to assist in the quantification of ice-breaking performance only and was not intended to be utilised for other research purposes. However, noting that the data collected may be similar to other sea ice data sets, it has been shared and can be utlised as required. During Voyage 1 of the 2023/24 season, RSV Nuyina undertook a series of ice-breaking trials to quantify the performance of the new ice-breaking vessel. This analysis was undertaken by a specialist team from The Hamburg Ship Model Basin, otherwise known as HSVA. As part of this work, the specialist team conducting the analysis took a series of sea ice measurements. This data set contains the sea ice measurements undertaken during these trials, this included data gathered from a vessel mounted electro-magnetic device (EM31), data gathered from core samples (ice thickness, snow thickness, flexural strength, air temperature, snow temperature, water temperature, water salinity) and ice thickness photos taken from the vessel during transits.
