Summary: | Progress Code: onGoing Purpose The objective of the survey was to map the seabed environment in shallow (less than 300 m) coastal waters adjacent to Davis station in the Vestfold Hills region, to obtain data for the compilation of nautical charts and to acquire fundamental baseline data necessary for informed environmental management, science, infrastructure and logistical operations. Data collected during the survey includes high-resolution multibeam bathymetry and backscatter data, sediment samples, seafloor imagery and sub-bottom profiles. The survey aimed to acquire geophysical, geological and biological data from the seabed environment to complement data acquired during a previous survey in the same region, also undertaken by GA, AAD and RAN, in 2009/10 (O'Brien, P.E. (2011, updated 2017) Coastal seabed mapping survey, Vestfold Hills, Antarctica, February-March 2010 Australian Antarctic Data Centre - CAASM Metadata, https://data.aad.gov.au/metadata/records/Davis_multibeam_grids). Geoscience Australia, the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) conducted a hydrographic and seafloor characterisation survey in nearshore waters offshore from Davis Station in the Australian Antarctic Territory. Multibeam bathymetry data was acquired during January-February 2017 and a high-resolution (2 m) bathymetry grid produced for the survey area.
