Description
Summary:This data set is based on a peat sediment core from near a small, unnamed lake on Macquarie Island. This core is designated as PLK1 in these notes. PLK1 is a 136.9 cm peat sediment core, collected in three sections 2018. It was analysed with a micro x-ray fluorescence (µ-XRF) core scanner at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), then sampled at 0.5 cm increments. It was dated using 210Pb (ages calculated using the constant flux, constant sedimentation model) and 14C. Based on 210Pb dating the upper 18.0 cm dated back to ca. 1900. Spreadsheet details 1. Notes – information on the sediment core and description of each data worksheet 2. PLK1_210Pb_data – 210Pb data (dating the 20th century) 3. PLK1_14C_data – Radiocarbon data (dating material older than the 20th century) 4. PLK1a_u-XRF – µ-XRF data for the top core 5. PLK1b_u-XR – µ-XRF data for the middle core 6. PLK1c_u-XRF – µ-XRF data for the bottom core Site near unnamed lake on the edge of the Macquarie Island plateau. Fieldwork conducted in February to March 2018. Analyses conducted from February 2020 to October 2020.
