Description
Summary:It should be noted that although care and diligence was employed to correctly isolate and extract iceberg location, in some areas there is the possibility of sea ice incorrectly identified as icebergs and thereby should be treated with some caution. It is hoped that ongoing work and further development of this novel work will mitigate this caveat. This dataset is a collection of points that describe the location and size of icebergs surrounding the Antarctic continent. The points locations are in Polar Stereographic -71 latitude (with corresponding x, y geographic coordinates) The dataset was extracted and compiled using a novel technique from the 'RAMP AMM-1 SAR Image Mosaic of Antarctica (Version 2)' available from the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) at https://nsidc.org/data/NSIDC-0103/versions/2. The data are available in NetCDF and csv formats. This dataset has numerous applications for both geophysical and biological studies and will contribute to Antarctic research requiring quantitative information on and related to iceberg distribution and concentration.
