Description
Summary:In the summer of 1978/79 the survey control network at Davis station, tide gauge deployment, lake levelling and other survey control in the Vestfold Hills was commenced. Detailed information about the survey, survey adjustment and equipment used may be found in the metadata record 'Survey report 1978/79 Glaciology department Author - B.A.Murphy' with ID survey_1978-79_1. The level of water in Deep Lake has been monitored since 1979 with depth pole readings. Information about this monitoring is provided in the metadata record 'Water levels of Deep lake, Vestfold Hills' with ID SOE_deep_lake. A new depth pole was placed in 2003 and levels taken so the reduced level of the old and new depth poles could be compared. See metadata record ‘Mapping field program survey report summer 2002/2003' with ID survey_2002-03_V2_V5. A zip file available for download from this metadata record includes: (i) Further information about the 1978/79 surveying from communication between Henk Brolsma (Australian Antarctic Division Mapping Officer) and surveyor Brian Murphy in July 2013; (ii) Vestfold Hills lake levels metadata records.txt which lists some seasons since 1996/97 in which lake levels in the Vestfold Hills were collected and the IDs of the metadata records describing the survey reports; (iii) A spreadsheet compiled by Henk Brolsma with Deep Lake water level measurements. This metadata record also includes URLs for entries in the SCAR Map Catalogue for maps displaying the Vestfold Hills survey control and lake levels.
