Description
Summary:Surveyors SPR Samuel Kelly and SPR Warwick Cox of the Australian Defence Force carried out a number of surveys in the Vestfold Hills during the 2017/18 field season. This work included: (i) Surveying north-east and east of Davis in support of Australian Antarctic Project 5097 which aimed to provide geotechnical and preliminary environmental data to assist in decisions on site selection for a potential Year Round Aviation Access runway near Davis. (ii) Surveys at the Davis Plateau Ski Landing Area. The surveying for Project 5097 began with the deployment and capture of ground control points for aerial photography that was flown during the field season. The aerial photography is described by the metadata record with ID aerial_surveys_vestfold_2017-18. The locations of drill holes, pits and soil sample sites were also surveyed. The surveying at the Davis Plateau Ski Landing Area was to allow for a Bump metric calculation (point to point deviation) of the ski landing area for the LC-130 landing. The final survey data is in csv and 12daz formats. The raw data is also included in the dataset. Details about the surveys for Project 5097 are given in a survey report.
