| Summary: | It was difficult or almost impossible for enlightenment ideas to develop within a particular place. Each country made a valuable contribution toward embracing and integrating into the new enlightenment views, depending on their economic, cultural, political, etc. development. As a core principle of enlightenment ideas was the strengthening of reason, development of education, science and culture. Enlightenment views spread in Eastern and Southeastern Europe as well. The enlightenment ideas were influenced and embraced by the most prominent Albanian ideologues during the Albanian National Renaissance in the XIX century. Enlightenment views had deeply penetrated the Albanian National Renaissance during the XIX century. Ideologues of our renaissance became great supporters of French, English, etc. enlightenment ideas. Albanians that were conquered by the Ottoman Empire for centuries, were denied freedom, education in their native language and every other basic rights to life. Most prominent representatives of the Albanian Enlightenment like Naum Veqilharxhi, Pashko Vasa, Naim Frashëri and Sami Frashëri embraced the enlightenment ideas firmly and worked toward the education of the Albanian people since education was the only way to free themselves from the Ottoman rulers politically. Enlightenment ideas promoted the liberation movements that demanded freedom of the country from the Ottoman rulers. During this time, the mind of knowledge not only played a significant part in Albanian society, it also played the part of a rifle as well because it was the only way to fight for the freedom of the country. Development of the Albanian political thought during the Albanian National Renaissance was reflected in the literary development in the enlightenment and patriotic spirit that galvanized the development of secular education in the national language.
