Description
Summary:Data are available at: arcticdata.io/data/10.18739/A2TB0XX0B This dataset shows the daily bare ice extent obtained from the combination of MODIS satellite data and MAR regional climate model outputs fore the period 2000 - 2021, albedo recorded from MODIS reprojected on the MAR regional climate model grid and the surface outputs used for SMB of the MAR model over the whole Greenland ice sheet for the same period at the same spatial resolution. It shows, in summary, areas over the Greenland ice sheet where both tools (satellite and model) suggest bare ice might be present. Specifically: 1) bare_ice_albedo_modiis_on_MAR_6km.zip contains two Matlab files. the first file (AL2_6km.mat) contains daily albedo values from MODIS over the bare ice regions. the variable has 4 dimensions , with the first two being the x and y position , the 3rd variable being the year and the 4th dimension being the day of the period June 1 - Augst 31 (92 days). The second variable sboth_6km.mat show the binary map of where bare ice albedo is located according to the combination of MODIS and MAR outputs (e.g., only pixels where both datasets suggest the presence of bare ice are used here). 2) MOD10A1_albedo_MARproj_6_5km.zip contains the same data as AL2_6km.mat but as GeoTiffs for user's convenience. 3) MARv3_12_1_6km_daily_ERA5_XXXX.nc contains the MAR outputs used for the SMB analysis as NetCDF files. The datasets contain the following variables: albedo, liqui water content, latent heat flux, sensible heat flux, long wave radiation (net), shortwave radiation (net), SMB, snowfall, rainfall, runoff, surface pressure, surface temperature. These datasets have been used, for example, in Antwerpen, R. M., Tedesco, M., Fettweis, X., Alexander, P., and van de Berg, W.
